Armed robbers giving Siaya residents sleepless nights

Residents of Siaya town are living in fear following a spate of insecurity that has left three dead and scores nursing wounds after they were attacked by robbers.

According to residents, armed robbers have been terrorising residents in recent weeks and have broken into a number of houses at night. Last week, two-night guards were killed at Randago trading centre by robbers, a few days after another man was killed in the same area.

On Tuesday night, a 20-year-old Cyber Cafe operator was shot dead at a shop along Grace Onyango Road in Siaya town. The deceased, Felix Okoth, was shot in the abdomen by two suspected robbers who ambushed him at around 7:30 pm.

Okoth succumbed to his injury while undergoing treatment at the Siaya County Referral Hospital shortly after being rushed there for treatment.One of the two customers who were at the shop during the incident was admitted to the same hospital due to shock and trauma. Okoth’s brother, Collins Otieno, said that the family is yet to overcome the shocking loss of their kin.

He said the deceased finished his Form Four last year at Chebuyusi Secondary School in Western Kenya and was planning to join college.

“The doctors tried their best but we lost him due to severe haemorrhage,” Otieno said.
